WLCN 96.3 FM is partnering with Lincoln/Logan County Crime Stoppers and ME Realty to air a Crime of the Week segment profiling open cases for which law enforcement seeks assistance from the public.
“With concerns escalating about crime in the area, WLCN is proud to assist law enforcement agencies and the Lincoln/Logan County Crime Stoppers,” said WLCN station manager Jim Ash. “And we would not be able to provide services such as this without the generous support of community-minded businesses such as ME Realty.”
Ash added that the sponsorship of ME Realty is critical in airing the segments. When WLCN airs public service announcements, that reduces the amount of airtime from WLCN’s broadcast day during which the station can charge advertisers for commercials. In turn, that lost income can have a domino effect and impact the station’s ability to provide programming and services unless a business steps up to help sponsor the segments.
“ME Realty appreciates the opportunity to work in collaboration with WLCN and Lincoln/Logan County Crime Stoppers,” said Seth Goodman, owner of ME Realty. “In doing so, we hope to make Lincoln and Logan County a safer and more secure place to call home for our clients and the community.”
WLCN will air the Crime of the Week segments throughout its broadcast day seven days a week. Plans are for a new case to be profiled in segments debuting each Tuesday afternoon on The 4 PM 411, a public affairs show hosted by WLCN marketing manager Loyd Kirby.
The first segment debuted December 17 and featured a crime involving the theft of copper downspouts from Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
“Lincoln/Logan County Crime Stoppers thanks WLCN 96.3 FM and ME Realty for this great opportunity to bring the community and law enforcement together to help make Logan County a safer place for all citizens,” said Corporal Brian Clements, coordinator of the Lincoln/Logan County Crime Stoppers.
In addition to radio coverage, the Crime of the Week segments will be repurposed into video form and will air during WLCN videostreams of programs and events such as Viewpoint with Dara Entwistle, the Cheap Seats Saturday Morning Sports Show, LCHS athletics and more.
To assist in publicizing the highlighted crimes, the video version of each segment also will be archived individually on WLCN’s YouTube page. The YouTube videos will be posted on social media each week so individuals can help share the segments by also reposting them. In addition, the videos will be posted in a new area of the WLCN web site as well as highlighted in the station’s free email newsletter distributed weekly, THE 96.3 411.
“This collaborative effort is an excellent representation of the mission and vision of the Lincoln Police Department,” said Lincoln police chief Joe Meister. “Together, we can all work to improve the quality of life and safety of the citizens of Lincoln and Logan County by opening a new line of communication between the Police Department and the citizens it serves.”
The Lincoln/Logan County Crime Stoppers program allows individuals to remain anonymous in reporting information relevant to a crime. Individuals providing information that leads to the arrest of the person(s) involved in a crime may receive a cash reward of up to $1,000.
