LCHS Railer coach Neil Alexander closes in on career win no. 900

Lincoln Community High School boys basketball coach Neil Alexander currently ranks No. 2 on the Illinois High School Association career coaching wins list with 899 victories, and WLCN will be there as he goes for Win No. 900 Friday 1/28 at Mattoon.

Coach Alexander has also been recognized by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) as one of the 60 most influential people in Illinois basketball in the past 50 years. Coach Alexander moved into sole possession of the No. 2 spot on the IHSA all-time coaching victories list on March 13, 2021 when he led LCHS to a 56-28 win over Quest Charter Academy in a game at Central Catholic High School in Bloomington. Gene Pingatore is No. 1 on the career coaching victories list, compiling 987 wins while coaching at Westchester-St. Joseph from 1969 to 2016.
