Patriotic concert by the Delavan Community Choir and the Pekin Park Band celebrating America’s 250th birthday by the Optimist Club in Delavan

The Delavan Optimist Club hosts an Independence Day celebration and concert Tuesday, June 30 at Veterans Park in Delavan starting at 6 PM. Music will be performed by the Delavan Community Choir and the Pekin Park Band, both under the direction of Delavan resident Steve Skinner.

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Complimentary grilled hot dogs will be available for the first 250 attendees. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

The event is sponsored by the Delavan Optimist Club and kicks off a year-long celebration honoring the 250th birthday of the USA. As part of this milestone, the club is showcasing patriotism throughout Delavan by displaying more than 250 sponsored American flags, many of which will pay tribute to local veterans and loved ones. The flags will be displayed on key holidays throughout the year such as Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July Week, Labor Day and Veterans Day.

The ‘Avenue of Flags’ is a community service program designed to support the many activities for local youth sponsored by the Optimists.
