Written in Stone: a bus tour of DeWitt County Cemeteries (departing from Clinton) sponsored by DeWitt County Genealogical Society
The DeWitt County Genealogical Society and the DeWitt Clinton Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is offering a bus tour of some of the oldest and most interesting burial grounds in DeWitt County. The tour will also include a running narrative about some early settlers, a ghost town, a virgin forest and other little-known pieces of area history. There will also be a short segment on super-natural activity as well as a grave witching demonstration.
The tour will depart Clinton at 10 AM and return around 3 PM. There will be a restroom and lunch break around noon at the Vespasian Warner Public Library in Clinton, where the Genealogy Room will be open for tours. Lunch will consist of cold-cut sandwiches, chips, cookies and beverages.
This event is free and open to the public to celebrate the Genealogical Society’s 50th year.
To reserve a seat, call (217) 935-5174, extension 6. (Please note, while this is the library’s phone number, your message must be left on Extension 6; the library staff is not taking reservations.) Leave your name, phone number and how many seats you wish to reserve, and you will receive a call back with specific instructions. Participants must be 14 years of age or older and physically able to board and disembark a school bus. The event will take place rain or shine.
