The Vespasian Warner Public Library District in Clinton hosts Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, the newest Museum on Main Street exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution and Illinois Freedom Project, an examination of the pursuit of civil rights by and for African-Americans in Illinois. These two exhibits will be open for viewing from January 3 through February 5.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 6 from 5 PM to 7 PM.
All exhibits are free and open to the public during the library’s normal hours of operation.
Voices and Votes explores questions stemming from the leap of faith taken by the American revolutionaries who established a government that entrusted the power of the nation not in a monarchy but in its citizens.
The library will also produce a locally focused companion exhibition linking the subject matter of the Smithsonian-produced exhibition to the history and culture of the community. A variety of special events will be offered that are free and open to the public, click here to visit the Vespasian Warner Public Library web site for a full list of events.
The exhibit is open to the public during the standard hours of operation of the library:
- Monday-Thursday: 9 AM to 7 PM
- Friday: 9 AM to 4 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM to 1 PM
The library is closed January 17 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
